‘Amy, with her awareness and care, has become a critical anchor in my creative processes. Amy facilitates a process where as a person and as an artist I am able to listen deeply and grow in my trust of what is coming forward. This is invaluable and means I have greater confidence to move forward with my work.’
— Bridget Fiske, Performance-maker and interdisciplinary artist
‘I approached Amy to mentor me in 2021 as part of my ongoing practice research. We met weekly online over a three-month period, focusing on developing my approach to choreographing through somatic processes. I found the rigour of Amy’s practice and approach to facilitation both inspiring and incredibly supportive. Amy brought a warm and generous openness to my struggles and questions. I learnt how to not close down on ideas, or try to push them away, but to allow them to hang in the space with me. The experience had a major impact on my ability to stay with the frustration of not knowing, and has brought a new kind of patience and honesty to my practice. I also found that the ability to be seen in a supportive way, strengthened my own ability to witness my practice without judgement, which has been transformative on a number of levels. I would describe Amy’s approach as subtle, generous, rich and rigorous. A process that only a masterful artist and facilitator could achieve.’
— Marguerite Caruana Galizia, Choreographer and researcher
‘Amy mentors with sensitivity and depth. She is warm and encouraging and it is easy to feel at ease in her presence. For me, working with Amy as a mentor has been a process of chipping away at fog around the intentions, visions, and questions of my creative practice, and unveiling clarity.
In addition to a wealth of knowledge and experience in academic, artistic, body-based, and therapeutic practices, Amy has poetic insight, highly attentive and perceptive qualities, and an in-depth view into process. Amy is dedicated to deeply understanding her mentee’s practice and what they care about – she has an incredible ability to support an artist in identifying their qualities, strengths, interests, and potential contexts for their work, and in working with and from those individual attributes. Amy is a highly skilled creative mentor, who brings joy, warmth, and care to the process as much as expertise.’
— Inari Hulkkonen, Choreographer
‘Amy provided the support for me to find my own way towards developing a new making and movement practice that felt true to my own needs and desires. She expressed faith in my ability when my own faith wasn’t strong and therefore supported me in my essence. She expressed a genuine interest and inspiration in my ideas, which gave me confidence to allow them to flow and then she created a holding space for them to exist in which made the process feel secure and my work feel valid. I truly believe that through us developing together a belief in my practice that I was very ready when a commission came along. And because I felt that I knew what I was doing. She supported me in considering every decision including transferring my ideas to live performance and film, negotiating with the venue, and writing a description of the work. Importantly, I wanted to make a piece that could have more than a one-off life, to create a more sustainable relationship as an artist that included mental wellbeing and a flow and continuity of working. I felt this healing in my relationship to my work happen in a time of personal challenges.’
— Jess Lerner, Visual movement artist
‘Amy has been my creative mentor since I graduated from my BA in 2015. During this time Amy has supported the development of my creative practice – both through Authentic Movement sessions and through CAP (Creative Articulations Process) sessions. Amy is a generous mentor who has used her dedicated experience in somatic practices and dance to allow me to find my voice in my artistic practice. Amy dedicates time to listening and understanding her mentees in such a way which allows the mentee to take ownership of and find clarity in their practice. Amy’s wealth of knowledge in the dance field means that the mentoring is rigorous and has a contextual depth to support the development of the practice.’
